Creative Learning Programme – Artist in Residence
This summer Whitechapel Gallery brings Lucia Monge’s international project Plantón Móvil to East London. Working at Willow Brook Primary School over a two week residency in June the Peruvian artist is developing a new iteration of her ‘walking forest’ event.
With handmade carrying systems, a forest of plants and people moving together, Plantón Móvil gives shrubs, flowers and trees the opportunity to ‘walk’ down the streets and to claim their place in our public space.
Take part by joining in the events below.
Plantón Móvil: community workshop, picnic and walk
Offsite venue: Willow Brook Primary School, Leyton | Sat 23 Jun
Drop-in | No booking required
11am Community Workshop and Picnic
2pm Plantón Móvil walk
People of all ages are invited to lend their mobility to a group of trees and plants so they can ‘walk’ down the streets, like a small forest reclaiming its place and respect. Join artist Lucia Monge to make beautiful baskets to carry shrubs, trees and flowers in a walking forest along the local streets.
Sat 21 Jul, 3pm
Free entry | Booking required
Led by the collaboration of Lucia Monge’s Plantón Móvil with students, work alongside other families to create props and material for a moving forest. Take part in the evening performance of Plantón Móvil, bringing a forest to life on the streets of Whitechapel and take advantage of the exhibitions and activities available throughout the day at the Gallery.
