There wasn’t a dry eye in the house on Friday evening when Riverley pupils joined forces with pupils from Willow Brook, Perry Wood and Stantonbury to perform a world premiere of ‘The Cotton Mill’! Performed at St Mary with St Edward and St Luke in Leyton, the opera was the final event of the 2017 Griffin Arts Festival. Lewis Delivett, the Director of Music for the Griffin Schools Trust, produced this stunning children’s opera and brought together four Griffin schools. Taking the Trust’s anthem ‘Jerusalem’ the opera project set out to explore and tell the story of the lives of people who worked in a Victorian cotton mill. Thanks must go to the opera singer Helen Sherman who found time in her busy schedule to support this project and to perform with our talented young people. The performance was the culmination of 9 months of planning, hours of hard work and the vision and creativity of our young people. Opportunities like this happen in a Griffin school and Riverley ends the year on a high! Contact the schoool for more information about music and the arts at Riverley, you will be astounded by the arts provision that is on offer every day. Bravo Riverley!
